Alone together

ENJOY, YEH?

------------------------------------------------------------

He couldn't be far away now, not far away. The girl noticed the white bracelet hanging in the tree right next to her. He'd been here.

The wind made the trees whip the boys face with their thin branches. They were so sharp that they left superficial scars on his forehead and cheeks. He tried his best to protect himself by covering his face with his hands and arms, but the effort was useless. Nothing could stop the winds painful hunger. It writhed in pain and screamed. The boy shared its pain.

The warmth from her hand in his own had already started to disappear. He clenched his fists and pressed them against his chest sadly. He glanced upon the sky, but it refused to reveal any stars. The only thing watching over him now was the naked, cold moon. He looked at his watch. Three minutes past midnight. The eternity that had gone by since he lost her seemed to be as short as a second and at the same time, as long as a millennium. Yet he could still hear the sound of her heart beating and feel her warm breath against his ear.

He took of the white bracelet to put it in one of the trees, as a mark of where he'd been. But as he reached out his hand, he felt something touching the tip of his outstretched fingers. He quickly pulled his hand back and turned around to see if there was anyone there, but there wasn't. For a second he could've sworn he'd touched someones cheek. A soft cheek. Her cheek. He looked down at the bracelet and remembered her. The whiteness of the jewelry in his hand reflected what light the moon was able to share. He looked up at the moon.

May he just find her.

The scream, which had led her astray, still echoed in her head as she looked at the watch. Three minutes past midnight. She sighed deeply, but suddenly stopped. It felt as if there was someone standing right in front of her. Something had caught the air from her sigh. She could hear heartbeats other than her own. The girl turned a couple of times to make sure she was the only one there and peered into the trees. Indeed, she was alone. All who met her retina were trees and a few, lonely shrubs. The moon valiantly found its way through the skirts of the spruce trees and its light struck upon her impassive face. Quickly she wiped a single tear that had started to fall down her pale cheek. The moonlight reminded her of him.

The wind cried in despair and forced her to move forward. She stumbled on a root and fell headlong to the ground. The scream, which was still around her, laughed amused and the wind stroke her hair in an apology. She stood up again and brushed of the dirt from her sore knees.
- Where is he? she asked desperately.
But the wind answered in an unknown language. It was obvious that it knew, but she was incapable of understanding what it said.

She froze. Something, or someone, had just touched her cheek. She reached out both her hands to see what is was, see if she could feel it, but it was already gone. She had recognized that touch. It had been the same soft touch as from his fingertips. But she knew it wasn't so, it couldn't be. She couldn't see him anywhere. The only thing she could see were trees and shrubs. Her only company was the wind, the moon and the contemptuous scream. Other than that, she was alone.

Or so she thought.
