Bizarre 80's movies part 2
And today's topic is MOAR horror flicks! (mwhahahah horror!!)
*Ahem*
Yes, wheeeere to begin...oh I know! First I'm going to list all the seriously good ones, those who are still a bit scary even today. Then I'm going to list all the ones that are mostly laughable and really strange. Okay, here goes!
The Good List:
Sleepaway Camp
Now this one is still quite shocking to watch, the ending still haunts me a little infact. It's about this young girl who is orphaned at a very young age from a terrible boat accident, and therefor refuses to speak at all. Then ten years later after the accident, she and her cousin are sent to summer camp. But shortly after arriving, kids start dying in very gruesome ways.
The girl who plays the orphan ,Felissa Rose does a great job of scaring you with her wide staring eyes and complete silence. The music is really frightning and foreboding, and when people get killed their painful screams are not comical or badly acted in the least.
But good GOD the ending! It's such an original one, that I've yet to see something like it again.

Twilight Zone: The movie
In the 80's this series had a sort of reboot, and it got really popular when it aired on tv. In fact many now famous directors have directed alot of the episodes. If you haven't watched twilight zone before, all you need to know is that it usually tells of two or three short ghost stories (or urban legends) in one episode. Some are not really meant to be scary, while others are.
SO eventually they made a full length feature out of it, which sadly didn't get that much praise because of the death of one of it's actors Vic Morrow and two illegally hired Asian child actors.
But this movie is actually pretty great, funny, meaningful and pretty to look at!

Poltergeist
Now, if you haven't seen this one I feel really bad for ya! Sure, it's full of clichés but this movie is like the founder of those clichés so it doesnt count. The staring doll in the corner, demon trees, indian burial ground, things moving on their own and all that. Oh, can't forget the tv either! Yes, this is a gem indeed.

Cat's Eye
Is based on the book by Stephen King and is about a cat called "General" who goes on to witness
three seperate horror stories. I watched this one lazy summer's day when I was 16, all cozy on my pink flowery couch with some hot chocolate in a mug. I think I even rented it from this video store that hadn't bothered to redecorate since the 80's with the tacky pink walls, mirrors in the ceiling and black and white checkered tile floor. Too bad they had to tear the place down in the end : (
